Improving Riding Opportunities

SG1L3527

The Improving Riding Opportunities project was designed to promote safer riding by encouraging the riders of Rural Wrexham to participate in the BHS riding and road safety training and test which were run at local riding centres. The project also aimed to raise the awareness of other road users to the needs of riders and the safety implications of not passing horses in a controlled manor. With the aim of improving safer road riding, AVOW in partnership with Wrexham County Borough produced a safe riding route. The route was developed using the unclassified roads in rural Wrexham.

Routes can be found here: http://www.wrexham.gov.uk/english/leisure_tourism/prow/riding_routes/

The funding for the Improving Riding Opportunities project was received through the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007-2013, which was funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and the European Union and the project received funding until February 2011 through Axis 3 funds.

The funding received for the project accounts for 80% of the project total costs therefore leaving a 20% margin to be provided by volunteer in kind time. It meant that by participating in the project and filling out a volunteer in kind time sheet volunteers actively contributed towards the project and improving facilities for equestrian in Wrexham.
