Wrexham's Children and Young People's Plan
The Welsh Assembly Government asked every County in Wales to produce a three year strategic plan which explains what they are going to do in the future for the benefit of children, young people and their families.
The plan is not a County Borough Council owned document but a Partnership Plan and therefore involves all the partners and organisations which belong to the Children and Young People's Framework Partnership. Here in Wrexham this includes Wrexham County Borough Council, local Voluntary Organisations, the Local Health Board, the North East Wales Health Trust, the National Health Protection Service, the Police and the Probation Service.
As outlined in previous pages of the Children and Young People’s section of the AVOW website, we are aiming in Wrexham’s Community vision ‘To improve the quality of life for all in Wrexham County Borough’ and our vision specifically for children and young people is to ensure Wrexham is:
- a place where children and young people are valued
- a place that provides a framework which enables children and young people to have high aspirations and to realise their dreams
- a place which ensures that all our children and young people have every opportunity to fulfil their potential
Wrexham’s Children and Young People’s Plan is set out in four main chapters which reflect the way in which the Wrexham Children and Young People's Framework Partnership have organised their work with children, young people and their families. The chapters are:
- Be Healthy and Active;
- Learn and Achieve
- Be Safe from Harm
- Enjoy, Participate and be Valued
These four chapters cover WAG’s seven Core Aims which are based on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (Please click here for more information).
Wrexham’s Draft Plan was consulted upon in May - July 2008 and lots of people attended workshops and/ or sent in response forms. Comments, ideas and feedback were included in the final plan wherever possible. The Forum for Voluntary Organisations working with Children and Young People facilitated their own workshop on the plan and sent in a response on behalf of the voluntary sector.
