Delivering the strategy locally

To support the implementation of the strategy an Older Peoples Programme Group has been established to drive forward the Welsh Assembly Government’s National Service Framework for Older People. Membership is drawn from key partnership agencies, including Wrexham County Borough Council, and the Wrexham Local Health Board.

A Planning and Development Officer post has also been established within Wrexham County Borough Council to work with senior managers across Wrexham County Borough Council and key partner agencies to develop and coordinate the implementation in Wrexham County Borough of the Welsh Assembly Governments Strategy for Older People.

Wrexham County Borough Over 50`s Forum

A key theme of the strategy is valuing older people and encouraging them to participate in the issues affecting them. To enable this to happen local Forums of people over the age of 50 were formed to ensure that the strategy was enacted, and that the voice of older people could be heard at all levels locally.

In June 2003 the Over 50`s Forum was established and in December 2004 Wrexham County Borough Council and Wrexham Local Health Board each identified a Champion for Older People.
