Carers Rights Day - Friday 4th December
2 Rhag 2009Wrexham Event to help carers ‘Care for their Income and Pensions’
Carers Rights Day, Friday 4th December
Thousands of people looking after sick or disabled relatives at home in Wrexham County Borough may be missing out on vital benefits and support, which could have a big effect on their pensions. Carers can find out more by attending a special Carers Rights Day event organised by Wrexham Carers Service on Friday 4th December. A programme of activities will take place to mark this national event.
Wrexham Carers Service is one of more than 1000 groups across the UK who take part in Carers Rights Day, a national awareness day organised by Carers UK. The aim of the day is to inform carers of the rights, benefits and services they are entitled to.
This year we will be taking an information bus around the County to meet as many Carers as possible. The bus will be at Queens Square from 9am- 11.30am, before moving on to the Somerfield store at Gwersyllt from noon- 1.30pm, Wrexham Maelor Hospital from 2pm- 3.15pm and will end the day at the Somerfield Store at Johnstown from 3.30pm-4.45pm. We will also be visiting Coedpoeth, Brymbo and Plas yn Rhos Lunch Clubs during the day. Many organisations from across Wrexham County Borough will also be taking part in the day, include The Welfare Rights Advice Service, the Credit Union, Age Concern, The Pension Service and Crossroads.
Ceri Ord of Wrexham Carers Service, based at AVOW said:
"Making ends meet is at the top of everyone’s agenda at the moment, but carers face a particularly tough battle to get by. On top of the stresses of caring for a loved one, carers often have to cope with higher bills and the costs of caring whilst being unable to work because of their caring responsibilities. I urge anyone looking after a friend or family member to come along to our event, where they can get information on how to take care of their income."
Carers UK have produced an information booklet for carers who want information about their income and pensions entitlements called Caring about your pension- A carer’s guide to pensions. Carers can order copies of the booklets by;
