PLas Madoc Community gets the Green Light to Play
27 Oct 2011Residents of Plas Madoc and surrounding areas have been given the go ahead to start the development of an Adventure Playground.
The playground will enhance existing wasteland behind Hampden Way in Plas Madoc. Work will start October and it is hoped that the playground will be opened during November.
The playground is funded through the WREN initiative and is a result of community consultation. Plas Madoc Adventure Playground is part of Wrexham’s Adventure Play Network funded through the Communities First Outcomes Fund.
The purpose of the site itself is to provide supervised play opportunities for young people. The site is designed to allow children to do "what children would do naturally" within a safe and secure environment. Although by design the play opportunities are not "risk free", as in life, the aim is to provide a nurturing stimulating environment, which will allow children to experience freely chosen play in relative safety.
Claire Griffiths Adventure Playground Manager at the Plas Madoc Community Development Department of AVOW said: "This project is very welcomed by the community of Plas Madoc, in particular the children and young people. Although it is envisaged that due to the high level of community participation, the playground will become the hub of the community providing security for adults in addition to children and young people. At such a financially difficult time it is enlightening to see that children’s play opportunities are being protected and enhanced".
Residents with children from Plas Madoc and surrounding areas will be encouraged to visit when the site is being developed to enable them to appreciate what is being built.
