Trustees of AVOW
AVOW is run by a board of trustees. They are all volunteers and provide the strategic direction for the Charity.
Trustees of AVOW:
Mervyn Rosenberg was a Consultant Surgeon and Medical Director of Wrexham Maelor Hospital Trust. He has extensive knowledge of the local and national health sector. He is a member of the Social Services Appeals Tribunal for the Welsh Assembly. Mervyn has been an AVOW trustee for six years and is currently the Chair of AVOW.
Margaret Bryden joined the Executive Committee of AVOW in 2005 and chairs the Volunteer Centre Advisory Group. Margaret was Group Advertisement Manager with North Wales Newspapers and prior to her retirement was Volunteers Manager at Nightingale House Hospice. Margaret has been a Trustee of the Wrexham Hospital League of Friends for 28 years and is currently their Chairman
David Galley joined the Executive Committee of AVOW in October 2005. He was formerly Finance Director of Wrexham Maelor Hospital and also a partner in a Management Consultancy Partnership. He served as a Town Councillor and was a Trustee of a Swimming Pool and also a Housing Trust. He is a volunteer walk leader for U3A in Nantwich and keen on most sports.
Moira Jones joined the Executive Committee of AVOW in 2007. Moira is a retired registered nurse who spent 22 years working in Senior Nursing Management. She was involved with the Maelor Voluntary Trust (MVS) as a trustee and then appointed as Manager and Business Development Manager of the organization – She retired from this position in 2010. Moira is also a trustee of the Shooting Star Centre, Wrexham Maelor Hospital and is a member of the Valuation Tribunal Service for Wales.
Barbara Roxburgh is a former nurse and Youth & Community Worker for Clwyd & Cheshire County Councils. Before returning to live in Wrexham in 1989, she was Chief Officer for Voluntary Action Cumbria, based in Whitehaven. A founder member of Caia Park Partnership Ltd and formerly its Company Secretary, she is currently employed by Wrexham Tenants Federation. She is also a Community Councillor, School Governor and is active in a wide variety of charitable and community groups and issues.
Wendy Smith joined the Executive Committee of AVOW in 2002. She is a retired Deputy Head Teacher who has been actively involved in a number of voluntary organisations. More recently she was a director and Company Secretary of a pharmaceutical and healthcare consultancy company.
Gail Thomas joined the Executive Committee of AVOW in 2007. Gail is Vice-Chair of AVOW. A retired nurse, she sits on the Health & Social Care Advisory Group and the Carers Advisory Group.
Rosemarie Williams works as liaison officer for National Mind across North Wales, having previously worked as Chief Officer of Caia Park Partnership Ltd and in Local Authority Social Services and Education Departments. Rosemarie also worked with a team of young people in Wrexham, developing an advocacy service "Second Voice". She continues to be involved with the project as a Volunteer Advocate.
Marjorie Dykins OBE is a founder member of AVOW. She has an extensive interest in the voluntary sector and is actively involved in a number of local voluntary organisations and church groups. Formerly, Chair of Wales Council for Voluntary Action, and was also Voluntary Sector Representative on the Local Health Board. Marjorie was formerly Company Secretary of AVOW.
Anne Ryan joined the Executive Committee of AVOW in 2010. Until the end of August 2010, Anne was employed as an Orthoptist by BCUHB, working at the Maelor hospital. In addition to being a member of the Executive Committee at AVOW, she is Chair of a Shropshire charity secretary of the Chirk Community Forum, a member of the Chirk Hospital League of Friends and a serving Magistrate on the Wrexham Bench.
G Raymond Jones joined the Executive Committee of AVOW in 2010. An actor, director and script writer with a number of theatre groups, currently Chairman of Limelight Productions principally a Youth Theatre organisation and formally Finance Director of the organisation.
John Leece Jones retired solicitor, currently: Chair of Governors of The Rofft CP School, Marford, Governor Ysgol Tanyfron, Governor Yale College (Chair of F&GP Committee and of the Remuneration Committee), Chair Gresford Community Council and Vice-chair of Wrexham CAB. Formerly a non-executive Director NEW NHS Trust, lay member Nursing and Midwifery Council (Vice-chair Nursing Committee and Vice-chair Investigating Committee), Chair NEW CHC and Chair of the Welsh Association of CHC’s.
Dave Hylands joined the Executive Committee of AVOW in 2011 having recently retired after 41 years’ service in Information Com-munications Technology within Local Government. Dave was formerly the Chief Officer for Information Systems at Wrexham County Borough Council. Previously Chairman of the Wales CCTV Group and ICT advisor to Welsh Social Service Systems Group, he was the LG representative for the Lifelong Learn and the Public Sector Broadband Networks in Wales. He is currently a member of the Welsh Government’s Digital Wales Advisory Board.
Michael Williams is Wrexham born and bred, and he worked for many years at the British Steel Works at Shotton. Between 1974 and 1988, Michael was Leader of Wrexham Maelor Borough Council, before joining the electronics company Sharp as Head of Human Resources. He was later appointed to Sharps’ UK Board and worked at the company’s head offices in Manchester and the manufacturing site in Llay and was responsible for human resources, legal and PR issues. Mr Williams was Chair of the N.E. Wales NHS Trust and later the Betsi Cadwaladr University Local Health Board. Mr Williams has also spent time as a Community Councillor and Magistrate.
Co-opted & Observers
John Carr is involved in a number of Voluntary Organisations including Chariotts and Wrexham Access. John is a non-voting observer at AVOW meetings.
Councillor Joan Lowe joined the Executive Committee as Wrexham County Borough Council Observer in 2008.
