Title: Community Development Officer

Hours of work: 37 hours per week (will consider 30 hours)

Cyflog:       £26,000 – £28,000 per annum

Based at: Tŷ Avow, Wrexham  

Accountable to: Development Manager

Pension: 7% Employer Contribution, optional employee contribution

Context: AVOW is recruiting a Community Development Officer to round out our core services team.  You will be an outgoing and dynamic individual who is dedicated to supporting Wrexham’s thriving Voluntary & Community Sector (VSC), also known as the Third Sector.  Your role will be to support emerging and established community organisations develop best practices in AVOW’s pillars Fundraising, Governance, Volunteering, Engagement and Wellbeing.   

This role will have a responsibility for the development of Volunteering and Governance best practices.  

You will ideally have a background working at a voluntary or community organisation and have assisted in developing a governing document, creating a safeguarding policy and/or have experience in charity management. If you do not have direct experience, you will need to demonstrate in your written application and at interview how your transferable skills will benefit AVOW and how, with training, you will be successful in the role. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Promote good practice in volunteering through organising events and training courses, preparing publicity & information materials, meeting with volunteer managers and provision of support for organisations with respect to volunteering. 
  • Provide direct support and/or signpost for specialist advice to local organisations on topics including; volunteering policy, development of governing documents, trustee and volunteer recruitment. 
  • Connecting prospective volunteers with meaningful volunteer opportunities. Ensuring that volunteers are supported with training and continuous development.  
  • Create and deliver content at network meetings and via social media on varied volunteering and governance topics that will assist local organisations with continuous improvement of their policies and procedures.  
  • Develop and maintain a network of specialist organisations whose expert knowledge will directly benefit AVOW member groups.   
  • To develop effective working relationships with key partnership agencies at local and regional levels. Attendance at local, regional and national meetings and events as appropriate. 
  • To support the AVOW Influencers a youth-led grants panel that distributes funds to youth driven community projects that contribute towards the goals of the Well-being of Future Generations Act (2015). 
  • To undertake monitoring through collection and collation of data, adhering to the latest GDPR guidance, use of CRM & Volunteering Wales databases and development and use of methods to gather qualitative information.  
  • To work with AVOW team and volunteers to develop services and projects to meet the organisations vision and mission. 
  • To work in line with AVOW’s policies and procedures and attend training, support and supervision sessions as required.  

Location 

  • The post will be based within Tŷ Avow (Wrexham City Centre) with the opportunity for hybrid/remote working.  
  • The post-holder may be required to work at locations across North Wales and occasional travel to other areas of the UK. 

General 

Other responsibilities, which may be negotiated from time to time, which are commensurate with the level and nature of the post.  The post will require a degree of flexibility.
