Inter Faith Youth Trust

Grants of between £200 and £500 are awarded for proposals for inter faith activities by children and young people from Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Sikh and other faiths and those of no formal faith in understanding and co-operation. The age range for young people is 11-25 years, and projects should take place during Inter Faith Week (16-22 November 2014).

Priority will be given to projects which:

  • Actively involve young people in planning, running, and evaluation of the project.
  • Promote positive action i.e. young people from different backgrounds coming together to address shared problems like improving green spaces.
  • Are run by non-statutory organisations, such as youth clubs, scout/guide groups, local voluntary and community organisations.

The deadline for applications is 31 August 2014.

Your Community the BIG Debate 2020/2025

At our AGM last Friday I issued a challenge for everyone to start thinking about how the voluntary sector will be like in 5/10 years time. With so many changes happening all around us in society there will undoubtedly be many changes and the Third Sector needs to be aware of how they can adapt to meet the challenges.

We are starting to encourage organisations and individuals to start thinking about how the voluntary sector will be in 5/10 years time when it is meeting new challenges. To stimulate a broader range of views we have started a thread on Wrexham.Com which is now proving to have a larger readership than the traditional newspaper.

Please take the time to read some of the views people are posting and also to add your own comments. These will then be used in the autumn to influence the Big Debate 2020/25 an event that AVOW will be running.

DECC Electricity Demand Reduction Pilot Scheme opens for expressions of interest

The Electricity Demand Reduction (EDR) pilot scheme will provide organisations with financial support to install more efficient electrical equipment that reduces electricity demand at peak times.

We’re testing whether projects that deliver lasting electricity savings at peak times, like replacing old bulbs with LEDs or improving motors and pumps, could one day compete with generation, demand side response (DSR) and storage in the forthcoming GB Capacity Market.

The scheme is now open to formal expression of interest and we have published a participant handbook which:

  • Explains what EDR is and the background to the EDR Pilot; and
  • Provides guidance on how to participate.

You can find out more about the project and download the handbook and application forms on the EDR pilot scheme web pages: www.gov.uk/electricity-demand-reduction-pilot.

The scheme will be open to a wide range of sectors and projects. If you represent an organisation which has members who you think would be interested please forward them this email.

Mosaic Wales

Do you know anyone from black and ethnic minorities in Wrexham who would enjoy discovering the beauty and benefits of Snowdonia and passing on their enthusiasm to others in their community?

Since 2012 Mosaic Wales has enabled hundreds of people from Wales’ BAME communities to enjoy the country’s 3 national parks. There are volunteers in Wrexham but still room for more.

If you or anyone you know is interested, contact project officer Siân Roberts email: sian@cnp.org.uk Tel: 07732 340 728
