Role Profile

We are seeking an experienced finance and accounting professional to become our Finance Manager.
In taking on this exciting new role, the successful candidate will oversee and report on the charity’s
financial operations to support the smooth running of the organisation and achievement of its
objectives. While overseeing the day-to-day financial operations, the successful candidate will also
have the exciting opportunity to help shape and develop future budgets, implement the
modernisation of related systems and processes.

Objectives of the Role

• To have oversight of the Joshua Tree’s finances, advising the CEO and Senior Leadership Team
on financial decisions.
• To oversee all financial reporting of actual and forecast management, including in-depth
analysis of the data to assist with informed decision-making.
• To work with the CEO on the development of financial strategies, budget development &
forecasting to support the future growth of the charity.
• To support the Fundraising team with developing and reviewing grant budgets and multi-year
fundraising plans.
• To review financial policies and processes to ensure they are fit for purpose, developing new
ones where appropriate and implementing improvements to existing ones.
• To actively contribute to The Joshua Tree’s vision and provide support to the CEO and senior
leadership team and wider team in delivering on that strategy.

Duties and responsibilities will include:
• Providing effective line management support to the Finance and Operations Officer to ensure
the monitoring of day-to-day financial operations including payroll, purchasing, and other
transactions are fully completed.
• To oversee the preparation of the Excel based annual budgets and monthly forecasts and
provide the CEO with an analysis of financial performance / position.
• To develop a long-term strategic view of an organisation’s finances and produce future
budgets and forecasts, in line with the strategy and future vision of the charity.
• To produce a quarterly data finance pack and board papers for the CEO and board of trustees
• Support the Finance and Operations Officer in maintaining weekly SAGE records, recording
and reconciling donations and in submitting Gift Aid claims.
• Work with the Fundraising Manager to monitor income generation in line with the budget
between Sage and Salesforce database.
• Preparation of papers for annual audit and working with an external agency to finalise our
accounts and submitting annual reports and returns to the Charity Commission and
Companies House
• To review all financial policies and processes to ensure they are fit for purpose to minimise
financial risk to the charity.
• Assist the Senior Leadership Team in deriving directorate budgets and systems to monitor
their budgets.
• Support the Fundraising Team to create Excel budgets for corporate partnerships and all
fundraising events.
• Work closely with the Fundraising Manager on the development of new budgets to support
trust & grant applications.
• Establish and maintain systems for financial reporting that meet funders guidelines and
produce reports for existing trust and grant applications.
• Line manage and supervise the Finance and Operations Office and other team members as
needed.
• Be an active member of the Senior Management Team and contribute to the wider vision and
strategy of The Joshua Tree.
• Undertake other tasks as requested.
Education and Experience:
• Financial management experience, preferably within a charity
• Accounting qualification preferred AAT certification or equivalent ACCA, CIMA or ACA
qualification.
• Solid understanding of financial systems and processes needed for a charitable organisation
to succeed.
• Experience of financial planning and management of external income.
• Experience of developing and monitoring budgets and assessing business performance
• Solid accountancy experience, especially keeping records online ideally with SAGE (or strong
experience of other online accounting software).
• Hardworking, team player and strong ability to build rapport with others
• Ability to manage own workload, plan your time and prioritise a number of tasks at once.

• Experience of working within a charity is desirable.
