The Association of Voluntary Organisations in Wrexham (AVOW) welcomed the High Sheriff of Clwyd, Zoe J Henderson, for a visit to the AVOW Childcare, Play and Community Development projects taking place near the Plas Madoc Opportunities Centre (Plas Madoc, Hampden Way, Acrefair, Wrexham, LL14 3US) on Friday the 28th of October 2022. The High Sheriff, accompanied by Chief Officer Dawn Roberts-McCabe and Chair of Trustees Peter Howell, was treated to a Halloween-themed tour which highlighted the positive impact the projects are having on local communities.
The tour began with Little Sunflowers Childcare (LSCC) and a trip through their inventive Halloween Trail. Sharon Evans, LSCC Manager, explained how each play area (indoors and outdoors) is carefully designed as a fun, interactive, learning environment for children aged 2 to 4 years. She also spoke about the wrap-around support offered by the LSCC team for the children’s parents. Later in the afternoon, the High Sheriff explored ‘The Land,’ Wrexham’s famed and much-loved ‘junk’ playground, where the children were in the midst of their annual Halloween Party.
Claire Pugh, AVOW Play & Community Development Manager, said, “We were honoured to welcome the High Sheriff to ‘The Land’ and to introduce her to the children, residents, and volunteers – so that she could see the impact that The National Lottery funding is having within our community directly. We hope she wasn’t too spooked by our Halloween celebrations!”
AVOW’s Chief Officer, Dawn Roberts-McCabe, said, “The High Sheriff’s visit to our play and community development projects in Plas Madoc highlights the importance of community activity in creating safe places to live and thrive. It was especially appropriate that she joined us for some festive Halloween fun!”
