Diolch yn fawr, gwirfoddolwyr!

This year’s Giving Tuesday falls tomorrow on the 29th, but not all giving involves money… Have you ever thought about giving some of your time or experience to a local good cause by volunteering? As part of Giving Tuesday UK 2022, we’re sharing spotlights on some of our fantastic volunteers, who give up their priceless time and experience to help us with our work as a charity!

Today’s spotlight is on the brilliant Mike Ashfield, who helps us with our website updates, our online campaigns, and with sharing information digitally. Thank you, Mike!

“Hi there, I’m Mike! I’m a volunteer with AVOW. I’ve been helping out with social media and the AVOW website for about 3 months now, and I absolutely love spending time with my colleagues! I have a background working in optical retail and also as a Live Chat Advisor for a local company.

I have a keen interest in mental health and wellbeing and have the desire to work within the mental health field. I love learning new things and have found that my short time at AVOW has already equipped me with some great skills, such as proofreading and making information more accessible to the wider community and its many networks!

In my spare time, I enjoy travelling and spending time with my family. I really love Christmas, and with that coming up soon, I am getting excited about sharing gifts and good times with friends and family!

I would encourage anyone looking to gain cross-transferable skills to volunteer – you never know where the skills might come in handy! It’s also great to work with such a nice and friendly team. If you want to feel like you’re making a difference in your community at the same time as gaining new skills, then I would really urge you to give volunteering a go.”
