Being Future Fit

Mae llawer o bethau y gallwn eu cymryd yn ganiataol. Un o’r rhain yw ein cydbwysedd. Ein gallu i ddal ein hunain cyn i ni syrthio. Os ydych chi erioed wedi bod yn benysgafn yn sudyn, byddwch chi’n gwybod bod eich corff yn ymateb trwy geisio cysoni ei hun. Mae eich ymatebion yn gyflym ac yn llyfn. Awtomatig. Dydych chi ddim yn meddwl beth allai fod wedi digwydd pe na baen nhw wedi bod. Dydych chi ddim yn meddwl beth sy’n digwydd os na wnaethoch ddal eich hun.

There are many things that we can take for granted. One of which is our balance. Our ability to catch ourselves before we fall. If you’ve ever had a sudden dizzy spell, you will know that your body reacts by trying to steady itself. Your reactions are quick, and fluid. Automatic. You don’t think about what might have happened if they hadn’t been. You don’t think about what happens if you didn’t catch yourself.

Un o’r dulliau symlaf a mwyaf effeithiol o atal cwympiadau yw ymarferion i wella cryfder a chydbwysedd eich cyhyrau.

The time to think about falling is before you fall.

Did you know that if you are female and 45 or over, you have a higher risk of falling than men of the same age.  The risk if injury at this point is relatively low but increases with age. If you have fallen once, then your chance of falling again doubles.

One of the simplest and most effective methods of falls prevention is exercises to improve your muscle strength and balance.

Rydym yn aml yn rhoi’r gorau i feddwl neu siarad am hyn nes i ni syrthio drosodd ond os gallwch chi helpu i atal hyn ynoch chi’ch hun neu’r rhai rydych chi’n gofalu amdanyn nhw, mae’n sicr yn werth ychydig o embaras dros bwnc sy’n effeithio ar bob un ohonom?

Do you know how to recognise your risks and take action to reduce them in the future?

There are the obvious risks: improving your muscle strength and balance, looking at your environment and clear tripping hazards, etc. have you considered your eyesight, hearing, diet, footwear, medications how much you drink?

“It was just a stumble I didn’t fall”.

The truth is that these are just as important to consider as an actual fall.

We often put off thinking or talking about this until we fall over but if you can help prevent this in yourself or those you care for it is surely worth a little embarrassment over a subject that affects us all?

Gyda hyn i gyd mewn golwg, mae AVOW ynghyd â BCUHB wedi llunio digwyddiad galw heibio lle gallwch gael help a dysgu mwy. Cynhelir digwyddiad Addas I’r Dyfodol, Wrecsam yng Nghanolfan Gymunedol Gwersyllt (LL11 4E) ar 26 Ionawr, 2024, rhwng 9:30 a 12:30. Mae mynediad am ddim, a bydd stondinau gwybodaeth ar gydbwysedd, iechyd meddwl, clyw a golwg yn ogystal â lluniaeth.

Peidiwch ag aros nes y byddwch chi’n cwympo, mynnwch y wybodaeth sydd ei hangen arnoch i wneud eich hun yn Addas I’r Dyfodol.

Having a fall can have serious physical and psychological consequences and can lead to loss of mobility, confidence, and independence. This event is open to everyone of any age, for Yourself or those you care for. We have gathered together health teams and organisations working in the area to help us all become more aware of preparing our fitness for a steadier future

Getting yourself future fit

With all this in mind, AVOW along with BCUHB have put together a drop-in event where you can get help and learn more. The Future Fit Wrexham event is being held in Gwersyllt Community Hub (LL11 4E) on 26th of January, 2024, between 9:30 and 12:30. Entry is free, and there will be information stalls on balance, mental health, hearing and eyesight as well as refreshments.
